ENGINE's & PROPULSION

Laura Moncur was, and still is engined with 2, 5LW Gardner engines rated at 60bhp. These are marine versions of the standard Gardner fitted in lorries and busses for over 40 years.

The engines themselves are exactly the same, but with a different water cooling pump (ram type), and "Heat" exchangers instead of a radiator, the oil is also seperately cooled due to no air cooling of the sump as per road vehicles, And one of the engines is contra-rotating, (standard for twin screw boats)

The Starboard engine is original as fited in 1961 s/n 126011 (RNLI #497), and the Port engine is a 5LW(20) s/n 171590,  fitted sometime in the early 80's but still retaining the original Injector pump.

These then go through Gardner "2UC" gearboxes, these are manual gearboxes with Hydraulic changing mechanisims, controlled by Morse single lever controls. Everything is in duplicate & identical.
