Hull Repairs 1

The Hull of my 47' watson, is made from Double diagonal Mahogany, this construction is very strong, and allows the timbers to be "Cold Molded" that is bent without steaming. It is two layers of planking Inner 3/8" thick, outer 1/2" thick, with a layer of calico (Canvas) and white lead paste between. English oak and East Indian teak is also used in framing and other parts.

The RNLI made 2 good film's about the building of a Lifeboat "Boats that Save Life" & "The Craftsmanship of The Lifeboat Service" if you want to view them click on title.

Generally the hull is in good condition, although dried out a little from the last few years ashore, it has also suffered from local "electrolysis" where metal fittings come through the hull. So far I have not found this to be a major problem.
